Suncoast staff give back

Over the past 12 months, staff from Suncoast Casino have collected R47 950 in cash for various charities.

AMERICAN angel investor and philanthropist, Ron Conway who said “I believe that we all have a responsibility to give back.

No one becomes successful without lots of hard work, support from others, and a little luck. Giving back creates a virtuous cycle that makes everyone more successful.”

Over the past 12 months, staff from Suncoast Casino have done just this.

They collected a whopping R47 950 in cash and donated the funds to charities of their choice in KwaZulu-Natal.

Beneficiaries of this initiative included the Edith Benson Babies Home in Sherwood, Vukukhanye in Chesterville, The Baby House in Westville, The Chatsworth Regional Hospice and the Denis Hurley Centre.

The donations were made possible through Suncoast’s internal donation programme that encourages staff to make a minimum contribution of R10 towards a charity fund.

Staff who made donations are randomly selected monthly and the selected staff member nominates which charitable cause will be the beneficiary of that month’s donation.

This year Suncoast tables supervisor and Asherville resident, Bilal Cassim donated R4 295 towards the Edith Benson Babies Home in February and Kumarie Govender from the cash desk donated R4 185 to The Baby House in Westville.

“The burning down of the Edith Benson Babies Home really touched me, so when I got the opportunity to choose which charitable cause to donate the money to, it was an obvious choice. These are children who deserve the opportunity to live life as children and the fire was traumatic for them and the staff who work there. I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to help these children at a time when they need it the most,” said Bilal.

Speaking of the pride he has for his staff and their contributions, Mike Dowsley, executive director at Suncoast, said: “We live in a world where everyone is working hard towards their respective dreams in a tough economic climate, so to see staff raise this amount of money for the various charities is incredible. I thank each and every staff member for their contribution which will make a meaningful difference in someone else’s life.”
