JUBILANT young fashion designer, Anya Grobler, received the Daphne Strutt Prize 2018 at the South African National Society (SANS) meeting recently.
Anya is a third year fashion design student at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Myra Boyes, SANS treasurer, presented the award to Anya who was accompanied by her mother, Denise Grobler, and DUT Head of Fashion and Textiles, Sunthra Moodley.

In her acceptance speech, Anya said: “Fashion is not just clothes but it also tells a story whether it be personal or through global influences.”
From a very young age she was privileged to learn from her gran and mom.
“First they bought me the cutest little sewing machine and it stitched for real. They taught me pattern making and sewing so that I could design for my Barbie dolls. It defnitely runs in the family from my great gran, who was a designer herself, down to me. I have had this obsession with all things related to fashion from a young age,” shared Anya.
