Sand pumping operations see North Beach open to public

North Beach is open to beachgoers after successful sand pumping operations.

NORTH Beach is open to the public once again after the municipality announced that sufficient cubic meters of sand have been pumped onto the beach, successfully restoring it.

Severe sand erosion forced the city to shut down parts of North Beach. Dairy Beach, Country Club and Battery Beach while sand was pumped from the ocean bed onto the beach to replenish the sand that had been lost.

The city said the sand pumping operation has been successfully completed and the beach is now open to the public.

Sand pumping operations are still currently underway with operation teams now moving to Dairy Beach to start the process.

The public is reminded that during these operations, swimming and beach access will not be allowed in cordoned off areas while sand pumping operations are underway.

Beachgoers are encouraged to use alternative beaches such as uShaka, Addington, New, Wedge and Bay of Plenty which are accessible for the public to use.
