Security officers praised for their quick response

Their quick response led to the arrest of a suspected thief.

TWO private security officers have been praised for their quick response which led to the arrest of a suspected thief.

The suspect is now in police custody. The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre received an alarm signal from a local church based in Overport and immediately dispatched officers Innocent Fakude and Andreas Ngcobo who arrived at the Spark’s road premises within minutes.

They noticed that one of the main church gates was open and conducted a perimeter check. They spotted two trespassers attempting to flee on foot and gave chase. One of the trespassers was successfully apprehended and the second managed to escape.

“Trespassing and common theft are prevalent in places of worship and schools within our communities.”

“I encourage them to ensure that their alarms are maintained in order to make sure that everything is functioning properly. It is also important to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals,” said District Manager for Fidelity ADT KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
