Memoir writing workshops comes to Durban

Join Wanda Hennig, long-time journalist, teacher, mentor, life coach, author and memorist for this two-day journalling, coaching, memoir, mindfulness workshop

“ONCE upon a time…” We all have our stories. They’re part of the magic and value of being human. How to find them? How to tell them?

Join Wanda Hennig, long-time journalist, teacher, mentor, life coach, author and memorist for this two-day journalling, coaching, memoir, mindfulness workshop. Connect with yourself, your muse, your creativity: your story.

“We can write memoir for ourselves, for publication or as personal history, as in legacy writing,” says Hennig.

“We can write travel blogs, personal blogs. We can journal about our lives and keep our stories secret. They can make us laugh or make us cry. We can share them, perhaps transform the lives or others and -who knows? – become a best-selling author.

“Our stories are as unique and personal as we are. How to find them? How to tell them? How to write them… That is a stumbling block for many would-be memoirists/story-tellers.”

In this workshop, participants will stop—listen—connect—write. The focus will be two interconnected transformative practices: mindfulness (awareness, presence, “listening”) and memoir writing (story).

Participants will get:

—To meet, name, and kick-start a relationship with your personal muse;

—To mine the richness of your life for “story”.

—Focused journalling practice (self-expression, self-coaching, self-growth, liberation).

—To start a memoir and take away tools and a “how to” plan to move forward.

—Take-home mindfulness exercises, tools and strategies.

—And lots more.

There are two April options. The first workshop runs on Saturday April 21 from 9:30am-5pm; and Sunday April 22 from 9:30am-4pm or Tuesday April 24 from 9:30am-5pm; and Wednesday April 25 from 9:30am-4pm.

Workshops will be held in Glenwood.

Two-day Workshop Price: R1,650 (includes retreat venue, course, take-home material). For more info or to sign up (each class size limited to six maximum), e-mail wandahennig@gmail.com (subject line: Memoir and Mindfulness) or WhatsApp Wanda at +27-72-664-3170.

“You will start where you are,” Hennig says. “No writing or mindfulness experience necessary. Just a willingness to jump in and be surprised. A sense of humour and a lightness of being will give added value. Anticipate lots of creative fun.”
