THE state and safety of roads in Morningside are top of the agenda for ward 27 councillor, Martin Meyer, who has made applications to the municipality for resurfacing of some roads, as well as speed calming in others.

Meyer said he had brought the issues to the attention of eThekwini Traffic Authority (ETA) as he felt there were many roads in the area that needed attention.
He requested the resurfacing of Percy Osborn Road, which he felt was in dire need of a new surface, as well as Wolseley and Hime Roads which go through the Westgate Gardens housing estate, and Burman Drive.
“These roads are on the schedule but urgently need attention in the new budget, especially Percy Osborn Road which carries a lot of traffic which the current road surface is not handling,” he said. Meyer has also requested a traffic light at the intersection of Innes and Percy Osborn Road.
“I have asked for a traffic light at this intersection before as this section of road is a notorious speed track and very difficult to cross. I hope a traffic light will curb the speeding up and down the road and address the safety of cars passing into or crossing the intersection,” he said.
He also requested traffic lights at the intersection of Adrain and Percy Osborn Roads.
“The Taxi Association asked me to apply for the traffic light at this intersection and I was happy to help. This is not the first time I have requested one at this site. I also feel a traffic light is required at the intersection of Avondale and Clarence Roads,” he said.
Meyer said he had applied for speed bumps in various roads, saying some were resubmissions and others were new submissions that had been prompted by requests from residents.
