Easter traffic chaos as protesters shut down Mooi River toll

Easter traffic has been brought to a standstill by protest action near the Mooi River Toll Plaza.

PROTEST action at the Mooi River Toll area has shut down the Toll gate and disrupted traffic in both directions. Motorists travelling on the N3, R622 and the R103 are warned to stay away from these areas.

There is also a truck on fire on the N3-W heading towards Johannesburg adjacent to the SPAR shopping complex. Trucks were also reported burning at the following locations:

N3-W heading to Durban
N3-E heading to Johannesburg
R622 to Greytown
R103 near Mooi River

The Public Servant News Network site suggests motorists heading for Johannesburg use the alternative route via the  N2 towards Pongola to get to Gauteng. Alternatively, motorists can head to  Stanger, then on towards Greytown, on towards Muden, Colenso, Ladysmith and back onto the N3.

Alternate route from Petermaritzburg:   Use the R33 to Greytown, go on towards Muden and then straight on to Colenso. From Colenso head to the R103 to the N3

Please be aware that the above route is limited in terms of volume and the recommended route for HMV’s is via the N2 towards Pongola and then through Piet Retief northwards to Gauteng. Trucking companies are requested to plan the safest route for your drivers ESPECIALLY if they are not South African citizens.

Durban – Joburg: Alternative route to keep moving would be R33 PMB to Greytown – then R74 Greytown to Colenso then from Colenso back to the N3 .
