Hoax post claims DA councillor in critical condition in hospital

I am 100% fine and haven't been in an accident, writes councillor Martin Meyer after a hoax message was posted on social media this morning.

WARD 27  DA Councillor Martin Meyer has denied claims that he is fighting for his life in King Edward Hospital after a Facebook post alleging he had been involved in an car accident and needed help transferring to Albert Luthuli Hospital for vital surgery was posted this morning.

The post which was shared by Charmayne Gail Nannucci read:

Good morning. I’m appealing to everyone out there that can assist in a very desperate situation. Martin Meyer the councillor for Ward 27. He is in king edward hospital after a very nasty accident. He needs to be transferred to Albert Luthuli for a vital operation. His finance Courteney has try every angle she knows to get him transferred in order for his to get an urgent operation. Please someone out there must be be able to assist URGENTLY. This could end up a life threatening situation if left much longer. Des Moodley Asif Suleman Fawzia please try to assist if possible

Meyer, who was made aware of the post by former DA councillor Rick Crouch,  replied  in a post saying he was aware of the post that claimed he was in a serious condition in hospital.”Nothing in this post is true. I am 100% fine and haven’t been in an accident. I don’t have a fiance named Courtney (how funny) and am right now having breakfast with my boyfriend.

I’m sorry for those who got scared by this fake story. I don’t know who started it or why but it is cruel and unnecessary and really not funny. My mother just lost her husband and if she saw this on facebook could have lead to severe distress.”

It is not known whether the post was a run up to April Fool’s day or whether it was posted maliciously.

Commenting on Meyers post, Crouch wrote: ” You have really reached celebrity status Martin, usually, it is only the A-Listers that get fake death or accident postings.”
Nannucci was scathing in her condemnation of the person who posted the hoax message: “To the sick SOB that put this on social media may you rot in hell…”
