House-bound Roberta receives set of wheels

Brenda Craig from Saint Giles, an association for the handicapped, said she saw Roberta's plea in Berea Mail.

AN appeal for a wheelchair by Umbilo resident, Roberta Dwyer, who was stuck at home, barely able to move and in constant pain, was heard by Saint Giles association who responded by donating a wheelchair.

Brenda Craig from Saint Giles, an association for the handicapped, said she saw Roberta’s plea in Berea Mail, and contacted her to say the organisation was happy to help.

“Roberta and her husband worked at Saint Giles for a contract on the Knorrox line a few years back and we are glad that she will have the wheelchair for trips to the shops and hospital,” said Brenda.

The Flamingo Court resident has been waiting to undergo surgery for a hip replacement since 2010. She has been homebound and spends most of her time sitting on her bed. She was very grateful for the donation which will give her a bit more independence and enable her to leave her flat.
