Glen pens testimony to inspire others

Glen Arnold's book details his struggles and triumphs as a man living with bipolar mood disorder.

BEREA resident, Glen Victor Arnold, has recently published his short testimony, entitled God of the Impossible.

Glen has lived an eventful life and last year, after much encouragement from a friend, decided to put his life experiences down on paper.

“In September, Rob Scott, a friend from my days in the Marines, told me I should write a book on my life, and I sat for two days without sleep, putting it together. I have wanted to do this for so long, and started writing notes on my life back in 1995, but it didn’t flow,” he said.

Glen’s book details his struggles and triumphs as a man living with bipolar mood disorder. His book includes his days in the SA Naval Marines, his successes in bodybuilding, going back to 1987 where he was placed fourth in the Mr South Africa Novice Bodybuilding Championships and later that year, third in the Mr Natal Open Bodybuilding Champs. His return to bodybuilding in 2000 saw him placed sixth in the Mr KZN Natal Open Bodybuilding Championships, despite being on chronic medication. He also shares his successes in tennis, and speaks candidly on his years of ill health, and his spiritual awakening.

“I only have a Standard eight education and am not competent at using a computer, but so many people helped me put this book together. Snow Mgcobo from 3@1 Business Centre typed it up for me, my Aunt Jane Turner and my friend from the UK sent me money to publish the book, Dawn Langlands did the editing, Clive Thompson did the cover design and his wife Diane did the final edit and proofreading. I thank everyone who has assisted me as without them it wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.

The book will be available on Amazon at CUM book shops in March.

“This is fantastic, it is the best thing I have done in my whole life!” he said.
