Security guard killed in shooting

The security guard witnessed a man being robbed by two suspects and gave chase.

A SECURITY guard believed to be in his 30s was  shot and killed in Dr Yusuf Dadoo (Grey) Street at around 12pm today after going to the aid of a robbery victim.

According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, the security guard witnessed the man being robbed by two suspects, and gave chase.

“The suspects on foot were accompanied by two other suspects in a silver BMW. When the guard approached them, and tried to stop them, one of the suspects shot him in the upper chest,” she said.

Garrith Jamieson said Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS in attendance.

“The security guard was assessed by paramedics however there was nothing more they could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” he said.

Const Khomo said the men abandoned the vehicle in the street and fled on foot.

“The vehicle has been positively linked to a hijacking in Chatsworth. A case of murder has been opened and police are waiting for the man who was robbed to come forward to open a case,” she said.
