Waves wash girl (7) off pier

A seven year old little girl has drowned after being swept away by large waves on Durban North Beach pier.

A TRAGIC scene unfolded on Durban’s North Beach earlier when a seven year old girl was swept off the pier by large waves.

According to Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care paramedics, the little girl was standing on the pier when a large wave hit and swept her away.

Life guards launched a boat to rescue her and managed to bring her to shore where advanced life support paramedics attempted to resuscitate her. Sadly nothing could be done and the little girl was declared deceased.

Syringes were washed up by the waves.

The high tide has also washed a number of syringes up on shore and residents are urged to take care when walking on the beach.
