Bird course for keen birders

The public is encouraged to join in on a beginners bird course at Paradise Valley.

A BEGINNERS bird course, presented by David Allan and Steve Davis, takes place on Saturday 10 February at Paradise Valley Nature Reserve.

The course is aimed at introducing birding to new birders and to people interested in taking up birding as a pastime. Subjects to be covered include how best you can go about identifying birds, what the main types of birds are, what you need for birding, where you can go birding, with whom you can go birding and how you can attract birds to your garden.

David Allan is the honorary president of BirdLife Port Natal and the curator of birds at the Durban Natural Science Museum, and Steve Davis is a well-known local birder and co-author of the book Field Guide to Shorebirds of South Africa. Both presenters are sought-after experts on birds.
