Positive year lies ahead for NPO

"Professional development workshops, seminars and presentations are in the pipeline for 2018 to keep professionals and businesspersons abreast of the latest developments."

AMAL, the Association of Muslim Accountants and Lawyers, is looking forward to a positive year, with many workshops, seminars and outreach programmes in the pipe-line.

The NPO, which seeks to empower, educate and assist professionals, business members and the public at large, held its annual general meeting in Sherwood recently, where new office bearers were elected, including chairman, Shabir Chohan, who is also CEO of AL Baraka Bank South Africa. The office bearers are well supported by an excellent team of professionals. All members provide their time, skill, knowledge and expertise on a free and voluntary basis to support those in need.

“Current and relevant continuous professional development workshops, seminars and presentations are in the pipeline for 2018 to keep professionals and business-persons abreast of the latest developments and statutory changes in the legal, accounting and tax spheres. Exciting times also lie ahead with the revived student and youth chapters headed up by enthusiastic and energetic young minds from University of KwaZulu-Natal Westville and Howard College Campuses,” said Shabir.

The organisation’s free outreach programmes, held monthly at various centres around the province, are very popular and continue to grow in demand with professionals going out to people who ordinarily cannot afford to consult a professional or do not have transport to visit professional offices.

The Help Desk at the NPO’s offices in Sherwood also fields calls and email requests for assistance from the public throughout the year.
