Designers hopeful for place in DFF programme

Each year, hundreds try out but only 25 can be selected into the programme.

FASHION storyboards have been received from hundreds of designer hopefuls wishing to be part of the annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) Mentorship programme which starts in February.

Each year, hundreds of young designers try out for the programme but only 25 are selected after the judges have conducted interviews with the applicants and discussed the inspiration behind the storyboards they have submitted.

Both judges, Phumelele Gwacela from the eThekwini Municipality’s Business Support, Tourism and Markets Unit and founder of G&D Apparel, Greg Wallis, mutually agreed that it will be a difficult task to narrow down the field as the standard and creativity behind these young designers gets more exciting as each year passes. With the correct selection of the participating young designers, the Durban Fashion Fair itself is anticipated to be bigger and better.
