Bev thanks the community

Glenwood's Bev thanks those who responded to the plea for help in Berea Mail.

GLENWOOD resident, Bev, who was featured in Berea Mail this month in an appeal for support with financing the tuning and rehabilitation of her cochlear implant, has thanked those who responded to the plea for help.

Bev, a victim of physical abuse in a previous relationship that left her almost deaf, had the implant in October. Friends, Colleen Welgemoed and Louisa Hitchcock have started fundraising for Bev to try and raise money for the audiologist to tune the implant.

“I have been back to the audiologist for her to adjust the implant. I have to go every few weeks for her to adjust and try find the right setting for me, as everyone is different. Each time it costs over R900. I am so grateful for the help I have received following the article, and to Colleen and Louisa for their assistance. I once again humbly ask if people can help where they can,” said Bev.

Louisa, who opened a fundraising account for Bev’s medical bills, said they have reached the R4 000 mark.

“This is great, however considering Bev will need R7 500 for the first year’s treatment, we will still fund raise in earnest. The calendar orders are coming in nicely, and people have been incredibly generous, with three anonymous donations coming into the account,” she said.

Calendars are on sale for R25, with R20 going to Bev’s fund. Themes for the 12 pictures range from fairies to battleships and chess pieces. Bev is also selling delicious home-made banana bread at R40 for a full loaf, and R20 for half a loaf.

If anyone wants to make a donation, banking details are: Account name: Cochlear Implant Beverly; Capitec Bank; Code: 470010; Account Number: 1552 842 981.
