PROTEST action by Shoprite Checkers employees has affected traffic in the Durban CBD. Motorists are urged to be patient and co-operate with Metro Police officers who have been deployed to various intersections.
According to a statement issued by the eThekwini Municipality, protesters obstructed the roadway for 45 minutes.

Thousands of Shoprite Checkers workers, affiliated to the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers’ Union (Saccawu), have taken to the streets across the country, demanding a reversal of changes to working hours and the reinstatement of workers at Sandton Checkers.
The workers were dismissed for opposing the time changes.

Shoprite is the largest food retailer in Africa with an annual revenue of R141 billion. They can afford to double that measly 2.5k they pay our people and not even touch 10% of that in wages.
