Development forum spreads Christmas cheer

More than 800 people from different facilities in the Durban area were treated to a delicious Christmas lunch.

A CHRISTMAS lunch was hosted for the physically disabled, visually impaired, mentally challenged and the aged in Durban, last Wednesday. Organised by the Wentworth Development Forum, the event was attended by residents from Central Durban, Sherwood, Wentworth, Phoenix, Umlazi, Kwa Makhuta and Amanzimtoti.

Speaking about the event and the organisation which has been at the forefront of community upliftment projects since 1994, Desmond D’Sa said, the objective over the years has been centred around creating awareness about those who are overlooked in society. It also serves as the perfect opportunity for the organisation to give back to those who have little to celebrate at this time of the year.

“We provided a Christmas lunch for more than 800 people from the different facilities in Durban. In addition, each group performed dance, song and drama items on the day. Every person received a Christmas gift from the organisers,” said D’Sa.

“Christmas is a time for giving and our event is a timely reminder to every citizen that more can be done with less especially for those on the periphery of society. We take this opportunity to thank the many individuals and local companies who continue to reach out to our brothers and sisters.”
