Festive treat for golden oldies

Residents were treated to a festive afternoon comprising of festive table décor and an illuminated Christmas tree which will be up in their home until Christmas to add some festive cheer.

LOCAL businesses got together recently to bless the elderly at Coronation House, the frail care section at Natal Settlers Home in Umbilo.

Much to the delight of the residents, they were treated to a wonderfully festive afternoon comprising of festive table décor and an illuminated Christmas tree which will be up at the home until Christmas to add some festive cheer. This was coupled with two musicians who sang songs that took them down memory lane.

They were then served a delicious hearty Christmas lunch followed by pudding and mince pies, after which it was time for a surprise visit from the Glenwood Presbyterian minister Rev William Poole dressed up as Santa who handed out gifts to the residents and staff.

“A heartfelt thanks to all involved in making this such a wonderful event that showed these old folk that they are not forgotten members of our society but rather that they are cherished and adored. Let’s all aim to make some time this festive season to spend with the elderly, talking with them and showing them how much we care, by doing this you can make a difference in the lives of many who are less fortunate than ourselves,” said Hayley Marot.
