JESSICA Kalil, Grade 7 learner at St Henry’s Marist College, was quickly won over when family friend, Erin Moyle, a Grade 10 pupil at Crawford La Lucia, told her how she had been inspired by the time she had spent at The Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Homes in Durban North.
For Erin, it started with a Life Orientation project involving community service. She had chosen to spend time with the babies and toddlers at the Babies’ Homes and lost her heart to the cause in the process. It wasn’t long before her enthusiasm spread to her family, friends, classmates and church community.
Soon, she was WhatsApping to spread an appeal for funds to support the work of the Babies’ Homes. Jessica elected to give all her birthday money to Erin’s drive. Between them, the two girls raised over R4 500 which will go towards the Babies’ Homes programme’s providing a safe, loving and nurturing environment for abandoned babies and toddlers before they are adopted into a loving family unit.
Rowan Phillips, volunteer manager at The Domino Foundation, said the girls’ enthusiasm to make a difference and their selflessness was a real inspiration.
