Security fence goes up around Congella Sports ground

Ward 33 councillor Mmabatho Tembe is pleased the fence around the Umbilo/Congella Sports Club has been erected.

SECURITY has been increased at the former Umbilo/Congella Sports Club grounds with the recent erection of a new fence.

Ward 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, said she was extremely pleased that the fence had been completed and said she has been informed that Metro Police and SAPS would be on site to undertake a clean-up.

“Police will remove vagrants living on the grounds and once this has been done, all entrances will be gated and a security guard will be stationed at the premises. This is hopefully going to be done by December,” she said, adding that it would help with the issues of crime and grime on the property.

Tembe said the land had been earmarked for high density low cost housing, however the property still falls under the Parks Department and negotiations around the housing project were still underway.

“Residents would prefer it if this property could remain a sports club and would like to see the buildings and club revamped to its former glory. There is also a need for a community hall in the area, so this would be ideal, however it all comes down to the municipality now,” she said.
