Good arrests by Berea SAPS

Berea SAPS is urging residents to be alert this festive season.

Good arrests

A MAN was arrested for robbery in John Zikhali (Sydenham) Road on Saturday.

Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS said at 10.45am police were patrolling along the road when they were stopped by a woman who informed them that she had just been robbed of her cellphone and cash.

The suspect was seen running up the road. Police gave chase and arrested him. He was found in the possession of the cellphone and a knife used to commit the crime. He was detained at Berea SAPS for robbery.

ON Saturday at 6.40pm, police were patrolling along the same road when they noticed two suspicious-looking men running towards the corner of John Zikhali and Currie Roads.

“They gave chase and arrested these suspects. A man who was chasing the suspects informed the police that they just attempted to hijack his wife’s vehicle from Lancaster Road. They were arrested for attempted car jacking,” said Naidoo.

Festive season awareness

BEREA SAPS urges residents to be vigilant over the festive season.

“When shopping do not leave your handbag or valuables in the trolley unattended as they will go missing. Conceal your cellphone when you are in a public place and do not get tricked into lending your cellphone to someone to make a call,” said Naidoo.

He urged residents to always park vehicles in well-attended parking lots, especially at night.

“Never pick up hitch hikers and avoid isolated ATMs and using the ATM late at night,” he said.
