Hunt Road one-way delay explained

Plans for Hunt Road to be converted to a one-way are experiencing delays.

THE delay in the conversion of Hunt Road to a one-way road is as a result of a delay with the developer, says eThekwini Municipality.

Ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe confirmed that the conversion was meant to go through in October, however to date no progress has been made.

According to eThekwini Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa the proposed one-way routing of Hunt Road was at the request of the developer, Mervelee Investments Pty Ltd. Mthethwa said the design, which had been approved by the eThekwini Transport Authority, was done by NAKO Iliso. “Mervelee Investments Pty Ltd is funding the one-way routing and the construction is to be carried out by a contractor appointed by them, they also appointed NAKO Iliso to do the design,” she said, adding the the construction works would be supervised and approved by NAKO Iliso to ensure that they are constructed according to the city’s standards and specifications.”

Mthethwa said as with all developments which require work to existing roads, the work is funded and carried out by the developer. She said the developer is required to sign an undertaking and provide a guarantee to the Council (Roads Provision).

“The guarantee provided by Mervelee Investments Pty Ltd for the works was not approved by our Legal Department and they were requested to provide a guarantee in the Municipality’s standard format. Once this has been approved the works can commence. It is therefore not possible at this stage to say when the works will be completed,” she said.
