Security guards working spotted two suspects who had allegedly derailed a driveway gate in Oakleigh Drive on Sunday night.

VIGILANT security guards and Blue Security armed response officers arrested three suspects on the Berea this week.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said security guards working in Oakleigh Drive and Chancellor Avenue spotted two suspects who had allegedly derailed a driveway gate in Oakleigh Drive on Sunday night. The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday at around 1.50am.

“The guards recognised the men from CCTV camera footage that was captured during the incident. They apprehended the men and alerted us to the scene where the suspects were handed over to the Mayville SAPS,” Mathios said.

In another incident, Mathios said an armed response officer arrested an alleged thief who had entered a property in Pitcairn Road in Carrington Heights where he was in the process of stealing copper pipes at around 9.50am on Monday.

“An alert neighbour heard noises coming from the property and called us out to investigate. Our officers entered the property and found a suspect busy removing copper pipes. They arrested him and handed him over to the Umbilo SAPS,” Mathios said.
