Hospital staff eat cake to support CHOC

"We have children from the age of 12 up suffering with cancer at the hospital, and we are passionate about caring for them."

CAPITAL Haematology Hospital in Durban recently handed over a cheque for more than R16 000 to CHOC after a cake sale fundraiser was held at the hospital.

Maggie Palani said as the hospital was a haematology and oncology hospital, children were close to their hearts and she and her team decided to raise funds for CHOC as the year came to an end.

Maggie and her team received donations of cakes and savouries and let everyone at the hospital know they would be having a sale.

“There were droves of people queuing up from early, so we decided to start our sale at 8am instead of 9am. We were amazed at the support, it was a great success!” she said.

A total of R6 106.10 was raised from the sale, and Maggie said they also received an anonymous donation of R10 000 to add to this.

The leftover food was taken to CHOC House at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital for the parents and patients to enjoy.

The staff will be helping CHOC with party packs for the Christmas party for children in the wards at the hospital and have decided to adopt CHOC on an annual basis for charity drives.
