Man arrested for theft of motor vehicle

A suspect has been detained at Berea SAPS after trying to steal a vehicle from St Thomas Road this morning.

A MAN was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle in St Thomas Road, Durban.

According to Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS, at around 10am this morning (17 November) four men tried to steal a Toyota Fortuner from outside a property in the road.

“The owner came out of his home and the suspects fired at him and he returned fire. They drove off in the vehicle along Vause Road and at the corner of Vause and Windmill Roads, they left the vehicle and fled on foot,” he said.

Naidoo said Ranger Security gave chase and arrested one suspect and called the police.

“The man was detained at Berea SAPS for theft of motor vehicle. There were no injuries and the vehicle was recovered. Well done to our partners,” he said.
