On Tuesday, the members swooped on an out building following information about illegal monitoring of police and emergency services operations.

JOINT operation by Provincial Organised Crime, National Intervention Unit, Metro Crime Prevention, eThekwini Outer North Crime Intelligence, made a breakthrough when they arrested a 30-year-old man who was found in possession of emergency service two-way radio equipment.

Lt Col Thulani Zwane from provincial SAPS said the suspect was caught while monitoring the two-way radios at an outbuilding in Morningside, Durban.

“On Tuesday, officers swooped on an outbuilding following information about illegal monitoring of police and emergency services operations. Police monitored and observed the criminal activities for a week after suspecting someone might be leaking information on police operations to criminals. Inside the outbuilding the suspect was found with different two way radios listening to activities of Metro police, SAPS and EMRS on their different channels. A total of 20 various two way radios were confiscated and will be used as exhibits,” he said.
