THE extent of the damage caused by a massive storm which hit Durban last month prompted Durban staff from Carfind.co.za, an online vehicle lead generation platform, to step in and help clean up the vast volumes of plastic that was washed down rivers and ended up in Durban’s marine environment. The enthusiastic group took part in The Durban Green Corridor’s Durban Partnership Against Plastic Pollution (DPaPP) and Carfind.co.za clean-up.
The environmentally conscious staff said they felt compelled to assist both financially and offer up their time to do their small part in getting the community they operate and live in back in good condition after the storm damage.

Nompilo Buthelezi from Durban Green Corridor said: “DPaPP is an activist, education and outcome-based programme driven by a group of experienced non-government implementation partners in Durban and is led by Assignment Earth NPC and Durban Green Corridors. DPaPP seeks to prevent and reduce the impact of plastic and other packaging pollution on eThekwini’s people and biodiversity whilst promoting pro-poor entrepreneurial development and dignified jobs in the green economy.”
The clean-up was one of many initiatives that DPAPP and its partners undertook to deal with the plastic pollution in Durban and its marine environment. There was a call sent out on social media for companies to donate in order to encourage more people to take part and create some income for the unemployed youth in the clean-up campaign.

“Carfindco.za was one of the companies who donated funds and also wanted to contribute in making a difference by participating in the actual clean-up. During the clean-up approximately 50 bags of rubbish were collected, most of it made up of pieces of polystyrene and plastic waste. It was heartwarming to see that a corporate company such as Carfind.co.za is willing to get their hands dirty despite their busy schedule and contribute to keeping Durban clean,” said Nompilo.
The team who tackled the clean-up was made up of members of the Durban Green Corridor as well as volunteers from Germany who are part of the Weltwaerts Exchange programme and the Durban staff of Carfind.co.za.
