DURBAN is in the grip of a kitten epidemic, with hundreds of unwanted kittens being reported to cat rescue and cat welfare organisations every day.
Cats of Durban, a voluntary organisation that facilitates sterilisation (spay and neuter) of stray and feral cats, in order to bring down the number of unwanted kittens, says most of these kittens face an awful future – neglect, abuse, starvation, disease or euthenasia.
The organisation has convened a mobile clinic to offer cat sterilisations for R250 per cat over the weekend of 3, 4 and 5 November. Anyone with a stray cat that they can take to the clinic can have the cat sterilised at this reduced price. They must be aware, however, that the cat will have its ear clipped (the tip is cut off while the cat is under anaesthetic) in order to mark the cat as a stray. This offer is not available to pet cats, only strays and ferals.

If the cat is too wild to pick up, contact the organisation to organise a trapper to collect the cat. There is a small fee for the trapping to cover transport and food.
