Popular FANCAM for Currie Cup final

Sharks fans can tag themselves on the popular FANCAM at Saturday's Currie Cup final at Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium.

Fans attending this weekend’s much-anticipated match between the Cell C Sharks and DHL Western Province will have something other than great rugby to look forward to. For the first time at a Currie Cup final they will be able to tag themselves in a high-resolution picture and share it on social media.

The FANCAM technology, first used in the Currie Cup at Newlands earlier in the season, was developed in South Africa. Described as the ‘ultimate crowd selfie’, fans are able to visit a dedicated website after the match, zoom in, find themselves on an interactive 360o image of the stadium and share it with friends and family on their social media accounts.

“So far this season we’ve had FANCAM at six matches and we’ve been thrilled by the popularity. Fans love it because it allows them to go back and relive the experience as well as sharing the atmosphere with friends and family,” says Marlies Kappers, DirectAxis head of marketing.

Keanan Lambrechts from Worcester is one fan whose FANCAM social media posts brought him more than just happy memories. By tagging himself at Newlands and finding the hidden Cup, he automatically entered the DirectAxis’ Currie Cup VIP competition. Him and his father are being flown to Durban and will watch the match from SA Rugby’s VIP suite.

To view the FANCAM image, Currie Cup supporters can register on www.directaxis.fancam.com before the game to be notified when the image goes live.
