Poet Maverick reveals new book

The book deals with personal experiences, fantasies, regrets, the present-future and a longing for bygone times.

NOT even rain could prevent poetry enthusiasts from attending the book launch of local poet Nathi Ntuli, at the Green Camp Gallery Project in Umbilo on Saturday.

Known as Maverick_Renegade in the poetry circles, Ntuli who is also a self-taught photographer and CEO of a multimedia company GodEyed Poetography says that the book titled Maverick Renegade: A Hollowing is an exposé of sorts.

He described it as a literal hollowing; “me, laying myself bare for the general public to see who I am.”

“I was attracted to words first. Growing up I was a loner and never left the house unless to go to school or to the shops. So I would read a lot. Poetry came into my life in primary school, but it was in high School where I developed a taste for it. I was attracted by rhyme and the various styles of poetry that exist. I also longed for expression. I can’t draw or sing or dance, all I have are words. The book deals with personal experiences, fantasies, regrets, the present-future and a longing for bygone times,” said Ntuli.

Copies of the book.

Ntuli, who also holds an International Diploma in Journalism from the Creative Arts College, said it took him nine months to complete his book. “The book is R100. People can contact me directly to purchase the book, until I can get it into book stores. I am reachable on Facebook ( Nathi Maverick_Renegade Ntuli) and on Call/Whatsapp 074 908 9885,” he said.

Ntuli further said that while eBooks were also necessary one had to cater to the varied needs and preferences of the general populous.

“All the people who I have given my book to, first smelt the ink on the pages; they rubbed the paper and flipped the pages in appreciation. Hard copies provide an unrivaled reading experience. The need to publish books is equal to the need to drink water, others may prefer milk or juice, but it all starts with the water.”
