Weather Warning: Durban braces as gale force winds forecast
Residents are warned to stay indoors.
STRONG winds are expected to hit Durban this afternoon and evening. The SA Weather Service says areas most like to be affected include Margate, Port Edward, Durban, Richards Bay and St Lucia.
According to forecaster, Thandiwe Gumede, areas adjacent to the north coast will experience very strong winds.

“We are expecting strong South Westerly winds during the course of the day. Those winds are expected to reach gale force strength,” she said.
However, Gumede said severe thunderstorms would not be experienced for a while.
“We are not expecting any other cut-off low anytime soon leading up to the weekend. At this point, it looks like things are gradually going back to normal,” she said.

EThekwini Municipality’s Emergency Control and Disaster Management Unit has issued a warning to residents to expect gale force winds this evening and tomorrow.
It said wind volumes this afternoon are predicted at 40km/h and are expected to reach up to 70km/h overnight into tomorrow morning.
This could result in damage to structures, cause trees to fall and result in traffic congestion where these impact on roadways.

Wave heights are predicted to rise to between 3-4 meters and could present a threat to bathers and surfers.
Residents, particularly those in informal settlements, are advised to attempt to secure roof sheeting as heavy winds could cause damage to them. All residents are advised to be cautious during this period and stay indoors for safety purposes.
