High seas forecast closes beaches

All city beaches are being monitored and will be closed if necessary.

ETHEKWINI Municipality announced on Monday afternoon that high seas had been forecast for the week ahead, forcing the city to temporarily close the Reunion, Pipeline, Warners and uMgababa beaches.

The decision was made in consultation with the Sharks Board and South African Weather Bureau. Shark nets will be lifted at the mentioned beaches. Durban beaches are not affected but the city is monitoring all beaches and should it become necessary to close them, the public will be notified.
