ONGOING illegal dumping on Feilden Drive alongside the boundary wall of Stellawood Cemetery in Glenmore has residents appealing to the city to heed their calls for assistance and take action.
Fed up with years of endless dumping and lack of response from the city, Linton Verdon said despite the fact that some Feilden Drive residents maintained their verges on both sides of the road, illegal dumping had become an recurring problem.

“I have lived in the neighbourhood since 1978 and this problem has become worse over the years. When Sue Burrows was ward councillor, we organised beige bags and the neighbours went out and cleaned the streets. I have sent queries and photos showing the rubbish to the municipality’s customer care centre, but have had no response,” he said.
He said there was often a terrible mess around the dustbins, which he said could be from vagrants who go through bin bags and dump unwanted items in and around the dustbins.
“I came across a pile of insulation for cables on Monday morning, which has been dumped on the pavement. On a previous occasion I approached people who told me they were collecting old kitchen cupboards but in fact were dumping them,” he said.

Verdon said he didn’t know where to turn as residents had no joy from the municipality. The issue was first highlighted in Berea Mail in June 2014, when another resident, Deon Braun, appealed for more dustbins in the road.
Ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe said there was an ongoing issue with illegal dumping, which DSW couldn’t keep on top of.
“Residents need to take photos of offenders who are seen dumping illegally, and send these to DSW. In instances of illegal dumping, contact DSW or myself to report it,” she said.
