Search for body of victim whose head was found in backpack

Police are looking for the body of the man whose head was found in a backpack in Durban last week.

POLICE spokesperson Lt Colonel Thulani Zwane, says the human head which was found in a backpack, at corner of Cross and Short street in Durban on Friday belonged to a man. Two people were arrested in connection with the discovery. It is alleged that the man had phoned a sangoma, saying he had a human head for sale. The sangoma agreed to meet him in a parking lot on Short Street at 9am on Friday morning.

“The man was found in possession of a human head at the corner of Cross and Short street, Durban. The suspect was arrested. Further information cannot be released at this stage since the police investigation is on-going,” said Zwane.

The police are still searching for the body of the the unidentified man whose head was found in the backpack. It is still not clear who tipped off the police, but both the seller and prospective buyer were arrested before the sale could take place. According to reports, the suspect tried to flee over a wall when police arrived, but he was apprehended by the parking lot security guard. A black backpack was found with the head concealed inside two plastic packets. A sangoma, dressed in Zulu traditional gear, was also arrested. It is alleged that the man had cut off the head in the early hours of this morning. It is not known how much he had asked for the head.
