Stellawood murder victim still unidentified

Police have still not been able to identify the woman who was abducted, raped and murdered and left in Stellawood Cemetery on Saturday, 29 July.

THE woman who was found raped and murdered in Stellawood Cemetery on Saturday, 29 July has still not been identified. Umbilo police confirmed this morning that they are still investigating the circumstances of the murder and have not yet been able to identify the woman who they say is between 25 and 30 years old.

The woman’s body was found in a shelter at the cemetery where she had been raped. She had been suffocated with a plastic bag which was found over her face. Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS said police would contact the Umbilo resident who witnessed the woman being abducted by four men driving a white BMW at the corner of Bottomley and Bartle Roads at around 5am on Saturday morning, in the hopes that he could provide more information to help them track down the perpetrators.

News of the woman’s abuduction and murder has caused outrage on social media. with calls for police to step up their game and warnings to women to walk in groups and not alone.
