Be aware, says Berea SAPS

Berea SAPS is urging motorists to be aware of their surroundings to ensure their safety.

BEREA SAPS urges motorists to always be aware when parking or driving their vehicles.

Capt Poobalan Naidoo said motorists should avoid parking motor vehicle in isolated and dark areas at night.

“Do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle such as cellphone, wallets, clothing and laptops and make sure your vehicle is properly locked and your alarm activated. Manually check doors to avoid remote jamming,” he said.

Naidoo said motorists should be aware of anyone approaching them and trying to distract them as they are getting out of their vehicle.

“People can try and rob you. Always close your windows when driving towards a stop street or robot as there could be criminals watching you.

Do not open your windows for hawkers at a robot as they could be a distraction,” he said.

Naidoo said if motorists are in doubt about the safety of an area they should phone a police station for advice.

Be aware of ‘wanted’ vehicle

CAPTAIN Naidoo cautioned residents to to aware of a dark coloured SUV, with two male occupants. This vehicle is wanted for carjacking in the Morningside area.
