ETHEKWINI Mayor Zandile Gumede has welcomed the acting appointments to senior positions made by the administration.
In a media release on Thursday afternoon, Gumede once again slammed reports that claimed there had been an exodus or purge of senior management. She said the city would not tolerate or protect wayward officials who flouted processes for their own personal gain.

“In cases of misconduct, we have a clear policy to deal with such matters. However, we do not run our Municipality by way of a witch-hunt. Where there are allegations of misconduct against any member of staff, a formal process should be followed which includes conducting a thorough investigation in line with the Labour Relations Act,” she said.

The following officials have been appointed in an acting position to vacant posts.
- Mr Steve Middleton has been appointed Acting Head: Metro Police;
- Mr Sibonelo Mchunu has been appointed Acting Deputy Head: Metro Police Operations;
- Ms Winile Zama has been appointed Acting Deputy Head: Logistics at Metro Police.
- Ms Geraldene Steven will act as Senior Superintendent at the Metro Police Training Academy;
- At the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit, Mr Vusi Mazibuko has been appointed Acting Head. His appointment is effective from 01 August 2017;
- Mr Maxwell Mthembu has been appointed Acting Head: Electricity effective 23 May 2017;
- Ms Zinhle Buthelezi is currently the Acting Head: Health since 01 July 2017.
Mr Phillip Ntsimane is still the Chief Audit Executive at eThekwini Municipality.
The position for Deputy City Manager of Community and Emergency Services, which became vacant as of 01 August 2017 has not been filled. The position was advertised on 28 July 2017 and the application process will close on 11 August 2017.
