Ministry milestone for Scripture Union

Scripture Union celebrated 150 years internationally with an event on Saturday.

SCRIPTURE Union (SU) celebrated 150 years of ministry across the world with a special gathering at Berea Congregational Church on Saturday, 22 July.

The celebratory event brought together all who have been involved with SU in Durban since 1925 and many messages were given by committed leaders and volunteers connected with SU present on the day.

General director of Scripture Union in Cape Town, Tony Nzanza, said Durban was one of the oldest regions in South Africa where SU was started. He said SU had 5000 volunteers who reached up to 98 000 children nationally every year.

“It's great to see the people here today and hear their stories. SU is around today because of the foundation these volunteers and leaders laid,” he said.

SU works with schools, runs camps, holiday clubs, school Christian clubs, distributes Bibles, runs the Reach for Life Programme, Children’s Bible clubs and a computer training centre in Chatsworth. The office at 70 Musgrave Road also has a book shop which is open to the public.
