ICC bids farewell to long-standing staff member

Durban ICC bid farewell to its marketing, sales and events director, Mala Dorsamy, after 20 years' service.

THE Board and Executive Management Team of the Durban ICC announced last week that Mala Dorasamy, its marketing, sales and events director, will be concluding her 20-year tenure with the company in July.

Mala has accepted an offer to relocate to Malaysia with her family and the Durban ICC team thanked her for her enormous contribution to the company and wished her every success in this next exciting chapter of her career.

While wishing Mala well in her new posting, Chief Executive Officer, Lindiwe Rakharebe said: “We are sad to lose Mala’s immense talents. She played a significant role in building the global reputation of Durban ICC. Her pleasant disposition and ability to bring out the best in her team ensured that Durban ICC contributed to both the provincial and national economies whilst providing jobs for thousands of people.”

Mala was part of the original team which opened the Durban ICC in 1997, and has served faithfully in the marketing and sales department for the last 20 years. Having moved through the ranks of sales and event coordination and spent several years in the role of the Centre’s marketing and sales manager, Mala brings a wealth of first-hand knowledge and insight to the position.

Commenting on the opportunity, Mala said: “After two decades at the Durban ICC, the opportunity to work overseas offered further career growth, international experience and great prospects for my children. Durban will always be home and I will miss its warmth and affection. I will continue to be an ambassador for Durban.”

During her tenure, she was responsible for bidding for, securing, and coordinating numerous successful world-class events hosted at the Centre and also personally project-managed the opening of the Durban ICC Arena in 2007.

Mala has played a pivotal role in the strategic direction of the marketing department for many years now and is well respected in the global events industry.
