Contractors lay new electricity cables

Contractors are working to replace old electricity cables in Glenwood.

ROADWORKS in Glenwood and Umbilo have raised a number of questions among residents who want to know what is going on.

However, Ward 33 councillor Mmabatho Tembe, says there is nothing to be concerned about.

According to Tembe, contractors have been awarded a tender to lay new electricity cables.

“Work started at the beginning of this year and the company is laying electricity cables, as the old cables had reached the end of their life span. This work should last the rest of the year,” she said.

Tembe said work would be undertaken between wards 101, 32 and 33 but the majority of the work would be in ward 33.

“These construction companies have hired some local labour which is great. We understand it is an inconvenience but it is necessary,” she said.
