Financial boost for local charity

The Domino Foundation benefited from this year's aQuellé Tour Durban.

FOLLOWING another successful edition of the aQuellé Tour Durban in April, the race was able to hand over a significant cheque for R175 000 to the Domino Foundation – the race's major benefactor – last week.

The Domino Foundation have done great work in and around the greater Durban area in trying to support local communities uplift their residents through many projects that include assistance with their education.

It is mainly aimed at young people and through the help of the race as well as aQuelle and Bridge Fund Managers, the race sponsor, they have received a monetary donation that is over four times the amount they have received in previous years.

“Our sponsors essentially enable us to make these much needed donations which has been incredible. They have been such an important part of the race this year and for them to come on board and support the Domino Foundation like they have we are incredibly grateful,” Tour Durban's Mike Lewis said.

Chief Executive Officer of Bridge Fund Managers Mark Logan commented that despite their late decision to present the race it was a decision they are happy they took. “It is an absolute privilege for us to contribute to the Domino Foundation. What we like about the foundation is who they support and the way that they go about it and they make a huge impact on our society. If we can help them going forward that would be incredible for us,” Logan said.

The Domino Foundation have had many success stories including the story of Sifiso Hlongwa, who rode the 2017 aQuellé Tour Durban and was present at the cheque handover.

“These donations might seem small with relation to the amount of people that need support but the donation is massive for the communities. By changing just one life, we can change a whole community,” Hlongwa stressed.
