Musgrave crash claims life of security officer

Armed response officer, Eugene Msimango, died after being involved in a partial head-on collision in Musgrave Road on Friday.

EUGENE Msimango, an armed response officer at Fidelity ADT, died in hospital after being involved in an accident on Musgrave Road on Friday at 2pm.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived to find two badly damaged vehicles obstructing the roadway.

Ceron Lennox from Rescue Care said the two vehicles, including Msimango's ADT van, had collided in a partial head on collision. He was severely entrapped in his vehicle and Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and hydraulic equipment to free him.

Ivan Govender, district manager (KwaZulu-Natal) for Fidelity ADT, said: “Officer Msimango was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment where he sadly passed away due to the injuries he sustained. He had been with Fidelity ADT for eight months and we are deeply saddened by his tragic and sudden passing. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family.” Msimango had been involved in a number of successful apprehensions of suspects during his time with the company.
