Dads celebrated on Father’s Day

Special dads, Ashley Debideen and Winston Shelton, say being a father is the most important thing to them.

DURBAN has some pretty amazing dads! We discovered this for ourselves this week when we turned to Facebook and asked our Berea community to nominate some awesome dads we could feature this week in the run up to Father’s Day on Sunday, 18 June.

We had a hard time deciding who to feature, but in the end it was the motivations of Tarryn Debideen, Tash Shelton and Annie Mans that helped us choose our three featured dads.

Tarryn Debideen’s husband, Ashley, she says, is a superstar dad to their children, three-year-old Vihaan and three-month-old Ayush.

“What makes him a good dad is that he always spends quality time with his family and grants all their wishes. I have never seen a hands on father like my husband. No matter what, he is always there for his sons. He believes in spending more time with them rather than just giving them things. My husband really takes care of his sons, from the time he gets up with the kids to the time he goes to bed. When he leaves for work every morning, his sons don’t want him to leave! You know the saying that any man can be a dad but it takes a real man to be a father – that’s him! We are blessed,” said Tarryn.

Ashley says being a great dad is easy, because he loves being a father: “Having super kids filled with fun and laughter and learning and teaching about each other’s needs is what I love about being a dad,” he said.

Tarryn said she and the boys would love to have Ashley all to themselves for Father’s Day. “We would love to have him at home – lock the door, throw away the keys and shower him with so much love that he forgets the world outside!” she said.

Annie Mans says you just don’t get a better dad than her dad Deligo Mans. “Dad is everything to me. His care, love and kindness has been with me since I was born, and he has always been supportive of me. Deligo agrees, that’s what being a good dad is all about, and showing his children the love of God.

Annie says, if money were not a question, she’d love to spoil her dad on Father’s Day with a new car. “Dad always walks me to school early int he morning and comes to get me after hours when he knocks off work. I am a girl, and he fears for my safety,” she saidDeligoTash Shelton’s husband, Winston Shelton, is father to three-year-old Gabriel and two-year-old Alexander.

For Tash, her wonderful husband is an amazing father to their two beautiful boys because he always provides for them, protects them and is a pillar of strength when they need him. She described Winston as selfless and said he had made sacrifices for his family in many ways. “Winston works full time and also studies, just so he can make our lives better. He’s truly an amazing man. He is a brilliant dad because he gives everything and pours everything into being a father. His children are his everything and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them, he is always there for them. He always provides and would rather take the food out of his own mouth and give it to them than see them hungry. Nothing matters more to him than seeing them smile,” said Tash.

Winston said being a father is the most important thing for him. “The best thing about being a dad is that you don’t matter anymore, your family is now the most important thing in your life, the world fades away and you live to see your kids happy. Being a dad has made me a mature man and taught me love and patience,” said Winston.

“Winston works so hard, so if we could spoil him for Father’s Day, if money was no question, I would give him a month vacation to a destination of his choice, buy him a new computer and pay off his studies and his car completely,” said Tash.
