Durban Weather Service issues warning of strong winds and rough seas
The public is urged to exercise caution.
DURBANITES have been advised to exercise caution as severe weather conditions have been forecast for the province of KwaZulu-Natal today (Thursday, 8 June).
According to Aslam Sardiwalla, a meteorologist at the Durban Weather Service at the King Shaka International Airport, ‘near gale force winds’ of 30 to 35 knots (50 to 56 kilometres per hour) have been predicted for this afternoon.
A warning has also been issued with regards to ‘very rough’ seas, with waves swells of up to six metres along the KZN coast line, Sardiwalla told the Highway Mail earlier today.

The South African Weather Service echoed the warning saying that the current spring tide exacerbated the condition of the swells.
“The spring tide has made the sea fuller, which means we can expect high seas. We urge people to stay out of the ocean,” said the South African Weather Service.

For tomorrow, Sardiwalla said the Durban Weather Service did not foresee any rain or precipitation but expected the temperatures to drop across the country.
The following temperatures have been predicted for Durban and the surrounding areas:
- Durban – min 12/ max 20
- Pietermaritzburg – min 4/ max 18
- Ladysmith – min 3/ max 15
- Mooi River – min 1/ max 12
- Underberg – min -1/ max 11
