Security upgrade for sports grounds

The municipality has hired a company to fence the grounds of the former Congella Sports Club.

WORK to erect a fence around the former Umbilo/Congella Sports Club got off the ground this week as contractors began removing the broken boundary wall to make way for the new fencing.

According to ward 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, eThekwini Municipality has employed a contractor to fence the Congella sports grounds. This will be done over the next three months.

“There will be two entrances that will lead into the grounds and these entrances will be locked. I have requested that a security guard be placed there as well when fencing is complete. The contractors, along with Metro Police will clean out vagrants living there by the time of completion,” said Tembe.

She said plans were in the pipeline for the Congella sports grounds, however she could not divulge further information as these were still not finalised.

“There have been so many problems with this space and finally something is being done to curb issues related to the property, including vagrancy, crime and drugs,” she said.
