Business to tackle mall crime

CEO of the Chamber, Dumile Cele, said crime is a deterrent that will continue to put the economy under pressure unless all stakeholders take a firm stand.

THE Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold a multi stakeholder engagement at the Durban Chamber conference centre on 6 June from 8.30am to 10.30am, to address the ongoing menace of mall and shopping centre robberies in the city and surrounding precincts.

CEO of the Chamber, Dumile Cele, said crime was a deterrent that would continue to put the economy under tremendous pressure unless all stakeholders take a firm stand. The “Durban United Against Crime Dialogue” calls upon all businesses, government, community representatives and law enforcement agencies to unite in the fight against crime in the city.

“Through this initiative we aim to protect existing and attract additional investment in the city, but most importantly ensure that no human suffers through the hands of another.”

“As the Durban Chamber we abhor any crime in our city. The prevalence of crime in our commercial centres is of serious concern to the business community as it has highly negative effects on doing business,” she said.
