St Augustine’s honours nurses

A Nurses Day celebration was held at Netcare St Augustine's Hospital on Friday, 12 May.

INTERNATIONAL Nurses Day is celebrated every year on 12 May, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing and her nurse’s pledge is still read and observed by healthcare professionals around the world.

The theme this year was “Caring for our people and caring for our patients.” As part of Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital’s celebration, pamper sessions and lunch were arranged for all nurses with prominence placed on the important contribution nurses make to society and the influence they have on the lives of both patients and healthcare medical practitioners.

Management entered with Eye of the Tiger to entertain the nursing staff and nurses danced and sang to Tina Turner – You’re simply the best – which was a special dedication from Matron, Jennifer Pieterse. Hospital General Manager, Heinrich Venter, celebrated with the nurses and rendered a heartfelt speech of his appreciation and admiration for the hard work, dedication and care nurses offer to the patients.
