Large bottle donation for SA Legion

A plastic recycling company donated a large number of bottles to SA Legion for its poppy project.

THE SA Legion was thrilled to receive a donation of 2000 plastic bottles for its poppy project from a local clean-up team.

According to Johann Kruger from SA Legion, Caroline Reid and Heyne van Altena contacted him to offer him the bottles that had been collected at recent beach clean-ups.

“We started a company to recycle plastic and wanted to give them to an organisation which is running projects to benefit the community,” said Caroline.

She said the SA Legion was their choice, because of the current project they are running which will benefit school children in underprivileged schools.

The bases of the bottles collected are being made into poppies to line part of the Comrades Marathon route next month, and the remaining plastic is being donated to create school desks for needy schools.

“We are very grateful for the donation of bottles and encourage the community to drop off 2l, 1l and 500ml bottles at Bike and Bean at the Durban beachfront,” said Johann.
