On a drive-about in Morningside recently, Meyer said he was was shocked at the number of places he spotted where rubbish had been taken out on the incorrect days and bags were left on the side of the road. He said this was not only an eyesore, but that in some cases rubbish was strewn across the roads creating a mess.

“Residents can be fined R5 000 for putting their garbage out on the wrong days. Residents have complained about the general cleanliness of the area, and complain about DSW, but each person has a responsibility to keep the area clean,” he said.

Meyer urged residents to report non-compliant neighbours to DSW or eServices at eservices@durban.gov.za.
